I have a friend that’s planning to do this or something like it. He loves being a student and at last count he’d acquired a BS and MS in analytical chemistry, a JD, was accepted to Medical School and was going finish his research for his PhD. He’ll never teach chemistry but his advisor really likes him and he did manage to get 4 articles published before he left chemistry for Law School. He’s also a master lock smith and licensed private eye. The PI grew out of his lock smithing, which he learned through correspondence courses. Anyway, once he’s done with school he wants to find a job consulting and than either work 4 months a year or 15 hours a week.
